The OPM fiasco for me was one of the big reasons I changed careers away from government contracting. It was awkward enough sharing all that personal information with the U.S. government, but when I did so there was at least the expectation they’d keep that info safe. It’s not so much that the info was stolen (there’s no such thing as 100% safety), it’s that it was so avoidable because they protected it so POORLY. And of course the Hillary email fiasco was just the icing on the cake… separate rules for the bigwigs and the little people. Even the Democrat-leaning people in the office were sore about that.
It’s a shame because there’s still SOME good/necessary work being done in the DoD and IC… but incompetence, dishonorable motivations, and lack of accountability in gov’t and leadership will likely put that work at risk. Sadly, the less necessary and shady/unconstitutional work is likely to be unaffected.
