ParticipantHis father reportedly blamed “racism.” So tote a hashmark in the racial violence accelerator column.

ParticipantNo direct motive from the shooter, but fellow soldiers are saying that he was bullied a lot due to a stutter.
Dad is pulling the race card. Link is behind an NYTimes paywall but it’s referenced in the NBC link above.
All this sounds like pretty typical shit I saw on a daily basis when I was AD. Some maybe a little mean, but pretty standard. 99.9% of people learn how to own it and grow.

ParticipantPops hasn’t backed off the race card? He would know if his child were a short man that stutters, don’t you think? We may count that statement as pride, which denies Quornelius’ experience in service to father’s own street credibility and social capital. Throwing his own kid to the wolves, Quornelius was left to popular culture and peering to raise him likely absent a mentoring father and deposited in USArmy culture that will not suffer weakness even in logistics MOS. If he was then bullied by low-functioning colleagues and USArmy did nothing to help him with that problem, we have met the enemy and it is us.

ParticipantHe’s an adult with years of Army experience. If he can’t handle bullying he needs to be in jail the rest of his life. Attempting to kill his fellow soldiers is not an appropriate response.

ParticipantYes, of course. But he was an effective weapon that inflicted five casualties stateside and could have shut down a key logistics node during war time. That must be understood to prevent it from recurring.
