PIR1: What indicators describe the Alt-Left movement’s strength, capabilities, sentiment, initiatives, and infighting?

North East

Massachussetts: The Boston, Massachusetts-based antifascist group North Shore Antifa posted a video on Facebook this week of attendees of the Boston Anarchist Bookfair shouting at masked members of the Alt-Right group Patriot Front, who entered the book fair and began chanting “blood and soil.” The five or six Patriot Front activists were forced to leave the book fair and can be seen being confronted by a large mob of attendees, who repeatedly shouted “Nazi’s out!” at them until they left the premises. [Source: https://www.facebook.com/northshoreantifa/videos/vb.613775425461441/197399837835880/]

South East

Louisiana: The Alt-Left environmentalist group L’Eau Set La Vie Camp posted on Facebook this week asking for supporters to donate to a fundraiser that will help provide aid and support to the migrant caravan as it arrives in Tijuana, Mexico.

“Please consider supporting our efforts to provide food, childcare, legal aid, and safe space to the families fleeing pervasive violence in Central America as they arrive in Tijuana in the coming days, weeks and months. We are one of many groups of volunteers providing direct support to the waves of people that come to Tijuana fleeing violence and instability.”

The post also included two links to fundraisers for the migrant caravan, one of which is strictly for legal expenses. As of 19 November, 2018 the primary fundraiser has achieved $15,300 of it’s $20,000 goal, but the website for the legal expenses fundraiser does not show an amount, however, the following is a screenshot of the donation page that shows what they are using the donations for and how much they are needing. Mid-West

Missouri: Red Guards Kansas City (RGKC) shared a video on Facebook this week titled “Who Funds the Alt-Right.” The video was shared along with a post in which RGKC claims that the Alt-Right is funded to carry out the dirty work and to project the ideological dictatorship of the “bourgeoisie.”

The emergence of Far Right groups on the so-called Alt-Right is, as is the case with many reactionary paramilitary groups funded by the bourgeoisie to carry out their dirty work. It reflects a decline in the bourgeoisie’s ability to functionally rule in the old way, a decline in the ability to project it’s dictatorship ideologically as well.

Wisconsin: The Anti-Colonial Land Defense (ACLD) held banners and blocked traffic in Wisconsin this week during a protest against the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline. According to the ACLD, the protest was intended to display their “Solidarity with the indigenous people of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and to show the public how many of our Ojibwe comrades people feel, STUCK, with the decision forced upon them by there governing body The RBC and their deal with Enbridge.” (Analyst Comment: This is another case of the government being protested for building a pipeline through the land of Native Americans. Enbridge currently operates the most extensive oil pipeline in the world. The Line 3 pipeline is a replacement pipeline being developed by Enbridge and will run through North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.)

In another post by ACLD, the protestors claimed that a car drove through one of their banners as they blocked traffic in the middle of the intersection:

A car just drove through our banner! We survived the attack, & are still Blockading intersection in superior WI against Enbridge Line 3 & it’s genocidal racist world!

Mountain West

Colorado: The Front Range John Brown Gun Club held a “women, non binary, and femme firearms 101 class” in Colorado Springs, Colorado this week where attendees were educated on firearms and a “gun culture that’s saturated with extremely masculine energy and behavior.” The class was intended to help attendees determine what firearms mean to them, and inspire them to conceal carry and go to the range for firearms training.

South West

Texas: In response to University of Texas professor Richard Morrissett’s death being ruled a suicide, Red Guards Austin (RGA) applauded Revolutionary Student Front (RSF) for their smear campaign against the professor for his alleged domestic abuse, which is believed to drove Morrissett into taking his own life.

“We applaud the work of the revolutionary students and especially the women comrades who stood up against Richard Morrisett and all those like him. The struggle against the oppression of women will give no quarter in our city. ‘When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror.’ -Karl Marx”

The following is an excerpt from a blog post published by RGA:

After finding out about Morrisett’s violent abuse against his girlfriend in May 2016, the Revolutionary Student Front (RSF), a now defunct revolutionary front on the campus trench at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), waged its most militant and final campaign against the pharmacology professor.

California: Red Guards Los Angeles (RGLA) published a blog post this week titled “Maoist militarization: the proletariat’s soldiers are invisible.” In the document, RGLA attempts to explain their “understanding of militarization.” The following are some noteworthy excerpts from the document:

“An indispensable component of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism, is the militarization of the Communist Party.”

“To speak on the militarization of the Communist Party, one must speak on the essence of militarization. What does it mean to militarize? What doesn’t it mean? What is the class character on the application of militarization – how does bourgeois militarization differ from proletarian militarization? What is the role of armament and the proletarian military apparatus, the People’s Army?”

“One cannot lead the highest form of class struggle, the People’s War, without mastering militarization. It means quite literally to transform the Communist into a revolutionary fighter, a soldier – which generally means a guerrilla – for the proletariat and the masses, subordinate to the authority of the Party, its Guiding Thought and the invincible ideology of Maoism.”

“We certainly would never consider revisionist “Communist” Parties or organizations with more members and supporters than actual Maoist Communist Parties or organizations as being more advanced. The Democratic Socialists of America, countrywide, are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, “left” formations in the U.S. But no serious revolutionary would ever consider the DSA a more advanced organization than the U.S. Red Guards Movement.”

“The Communist soldier is a more advanced soldier. They are nothing short of a piece of history. They carry the legacy of the international proletariat, of the International Communist Movement, a history of martyrdom and a sea of tears and blood, of unfading memory of our movement’s somber losses and victorious gains. The Communist soldier fights for nothing short of the full transformation of the world.”

“In the absence of a People’s War, which is part of our current general countrywide situation in the U.S., Maoists oppose the arguments by revisionists and others in refusing militarization. As said earlier, to refute or attempt to remove militarization from Maoism would result in inevitable failure with the variable being time. You cannot wage revolution without an army. You cannot have an army without soldiers. You cannot wage a revolution without revolutionary theory.”

“We train ourselves and the masses to wield revolutionary violence while we begin building the future Base Areas of the People’s War. The task for Maoists in countries without Maoist Communist Parties and without People’s Wars is to seize the subjective conditions in favor for war. The general objective conditions are already there for revolution. Our task is to catch up with the masses and our historical mission.”

“Maoists do not wait for the next economic crisis or government shutdown or mass unrest. In our mass organisms and initiatives we seek to attack the enemies of the people, securing revindications, while we construct the subjective conditions for People’s War. All our militarized mass work leads us to this inevitability.”
