PIR1: What indicators describe the Alt-Left movement’s strength, capabilities, sentiment, initiatives, and infighting?

National

Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Network (AFN) has announced a new Anti-Fascist Student Network (AFSN) that will help students and faculty “coordinate and organise together against the threat of fascists.” The UK-based organization, with doctrine also practiced in the States, also released a document that details their formation, goals, and beliefs. In the document AFSN writes that, “We take a direct and clear position: hate speech is not free speech and white nationalists, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis are not welcome to organise and disseminate their propaganda on our campuses…. We are launching this coalition motivated by events in the recent past which have seen universities used as prime recruiting ground for neo-fascists, while students face a growing number of racist harassment and hate crime.” (Analyst Comment: Although AFSN will not be posing an immediate threat here, anti-fascist groups in America have a tendency to model themselves after their European comrades. Anarchist Radio: A 24/7 Anarchist radio network called Channel Zero has been working alongside known Alt-Left media networks to broadcast Communist, Anti-Fascist and Anarchist propaganda. Channel Zero’s website lists all of the Alt-Left networks, including It’s Going Down and The Ex-Worker, as well as over a dozen other media outlets and networks. The following Alt-Left networks are included under the “Co-Conspirators” tab on their website: IGDCast, Solecast, Whichside Podcast, The Ex-Worker, Hotwire, The Final Straw Radio, Rustbelt Abolition Radio, Resonance: An Anarchist Audio Distro, Kite Line, Rebel Beat Radio, A-Radio Berlin, Danthropology, subMedia, Trouble, Burning Cop Car, Radical Underground, Subversion 1312, and Dissident Island Radio. The scum fled the pub and jumped into a cab.” (Source: https://twitter.com/NYCAntifa/status/988142030470746112)

North Carolina: Around 60-70 protestors surrounded and harassed a group of ICE agents in North Carolina. Some of the protestors brought instruments with them and played music along with anti-ICE chants such as “Nazi borders we don’t need them.” Other protestors brought signs that said things like “Why send hard people away? We need them!” and “Society is unity in diversity.” Eventually the ICE agents left the area, however the protestors continued to protest throughout the day. Several hours later the protest moved to the front of the federal building in Asheville, North Carolina, where even more protestors joined the rally, increasing the number of protestors to over 200.(Source: https://itsgoingdown.org/protestors-crash-ice-picnic-after-week-of-raids-in-western-nc/)

PIR2: What indicators describe the Alt-Right movement’s strength, capabilities, sentiment, initiatives, and infighting?

Virginia: The University of Virginia is in the process of serving a no trespass warning to Jason Kessler, according to an official statement. There have been “multiple reports that students that Mr. Kessler threatened them, targeted them through cyber-bullying and cyber-harassment, and targeted them based on protected characteristics. Kessler also intentionally and purposefully misled officers of the University Police Department regarding the torchlight rally that he helped organize Aug. 11. His conduct on Aug. 11 threatened the health and safety of members of the University community. The warning is consistent with long-standing University practice and current policy [PRM-018]. The warning effectively bans Mr. Kessler from being on University property.” (Source: https://twitter.com/cvillenews_desk/status/989864623116562432)

Richard Spencer: Richard Spencer’s last fundraising platform MakersSupport is having issues paying Spencer and other creators who use the platform. Spencer stated in February that “One of the other fundamental reasons why we’re on MakerSupport is that this is all we’ve got.” (Source: https://twitter.com/cjcmichel/status/989194274918060032) (Analyst Comment: Richard Spencer and the Alt-Right have been routinely de-platformed in the tech world, although his Twitter account is still active. Earlier his month, Facebook purged another group of Alt-Right accounts, including Spencer’s AltRight.com page. Spencer and other organizations have had problems finding a workable crowdfunding solution.)

IE Rollup: Identity Evropa activists put up stickers and flyers in six different cities across four different states this week including California, Florida, Kentucky, and Washington. (Source: https://twitter.com/IdentityEvropa/status/989661491531079682)

Identity Evropa: Members of Identity Evropa rallied at the South African embassy in Washington D.C. this week to “protest the slaughter of white farmers – an atrocity ignored by the country’s majority government.” The members laid down in front of a statue of Nelson Mandela wearing white t-shirts with red paint on them that resembled blood. Pictures of the protest were posted on the groups Twitter with the description, “This is the future White South Africans face in Nelson Mandela’s ‘rainbow nation.'” (Source: https://twitter.com/IdentityEvropa/status/987824831738601473)

Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania State University has been involved in a racism scandal after a student at the university recently attempted to get a fellow student banned from the university for saying the n-word on video. In the video the white female student can be seen singing the word repeatedly, after which she sings “If you’re offended you can suck my d***.” The student who reported the video to the university tweeted: “Her name is Jasmine Barkley. This is my university. Penn State. Beyond ridiculous. @penn_sate y’all already know the deal. Just do your thing.” In response, the university stated that “Penn State’s embrace of diversity & inclusion, and opposition to prejudice & hate, are clear. We condemn racist messages, as they are hateful and violate our institutional values. We cannot, however, impose sanctions for Constitutionally protected speech, no matter how offensive.” (Source: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/penn-state-embroiled-racism-scandal-people-unimpressed-schools-response-183740620.html)
