PIR1: What indicators describe the Alt-Left movement’s strength, capabilities, sentiment, initiatives, and infighting?

US Army: The Socialist Rifle Association of Central Texas posted on their Facebook page an interview with Spencer Rapone, a former Army soldier and West Point cadet. Earlier this year, Rapone was under investigation for posting a picture of himself in uniform with “Communism will win” inscribed on the inside of his hat. On 18 June, Rapone was given an “other than honorable” discharge after his actions were  found to have been in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Rapone spoke of his time at West Point, saying: “I realized we [in the military] are the muscle for those with wealth and status. I also realized I was a socialist. It was jarring.” He says he earned the nickname “the Communist cadet”. Rapone also leveled criticism against Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and former National Security Advisor McMaster, saying: This reverence for the military is priming the population to accept military rule and a form of fascism or protofascism. That’s why I felt even more compelled to get out.” (Source: and

New York, New York: The Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement of New York City (RAM-NYC) published a report back on It’s Going Down in which the group details how their “Liberation Fund” successfully bailed a “captive out of ICE custody.” In the report back the group stated that “RAM-NYC stands with those who have risked everything to travel here and have become our neighbors, friends and comrades. As the US government’s policies seek to dehumanize large swathes of people, we renew our commitment to creating a shared humanity, and fighting to destroy the conditions that wreak havoc on the world. The US government has made it clear that it is on a decisive, resolute path to totalitarianism and we will continue to stand with those resisting.” (Source:

Pittsburg, Pennsylvania: An article was published on The Root which claims that the mayor of Pennsylvania has urged police to “treat protestors like it’s 1963.” The author was written by Michael Harriot, whose bio on The Root reads “World renowned wypipoloygist. Getter and doer of ‘it.’ Never reneged, never will. Last real negus alive.” In the article Harriot claims that the mayor wants police to go back to using water cannons and dogs on protestors. (Source: (Analyst Comment: “Wypipo” is slang for “white people”.)

Chicago, Illinois: A bar in Chicago called Replay Lincoln Park announced on their Facebook page saying that people wearing “Make America Great Again” hats will no longer be allowed inside the bar. The bar has received backlash for the new dress code policy, and the bar later deleted the Facebook post. It is not clear whether or not the policy is still being enforced following the post’s deletion. (Source:

Michigan: Lower Michigan Redneck Revolt put up a booth at a gay pride parade where they met and talked with gay rights activists. In a picture posted to Facebook by the page Grouchy Socialists decorated bricks with pro-gay slogans and rainbow colors can be seen on and in front of the booth. (Source:

Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Anti-ICE banners were dropped over a highway in Milwaukee in solidarity with the illegal immigrants who have been detained by ICE. (Source:

North Carolina: Alt-Left activists recently took action to prevent the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in North Carolina. According to a report back posted by the activists on It’s Going Down, the activists “immobilized and sprayed up multiple pieces of heavy construction equipment along US 220 in North Carolina. An excavator, a bulldozer, and a number of front loaders all tasted exquisite venom, by way of maple syrup and bleach. Fire extinguishers on-site were also rendered useless. This tiny act of attack was taken against the proposed construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline Southgate, as well as the destruction of numerous acres of forest in the clearing of the new I-840 corridor.” (Source:

Portland, Oregon: Amateur videos from the freedom rallies that took place in Portland this past weekend show antifascist activists instigating fights by attacking the right wing activists with a firework or explosive device. (Source:

Austin, Texas: The Austin Socialist Collective (ASC) posted on their Facebook saying that socialists should be “ashamed” of Bernie Sanders after he declined to call for the abolishing of ICE. In the post ASC stated that Sanders is “a representive of Social Democratic, not Socialist, ideology. Social Democracy preserves capitalism and imperialism, but more “fairly” shares the resources stolen from poor nations with American and European workers. Not only is this arrangement morally unacceptable, it is doomed: the oppressed and exploited nations of the world will eventually destroy it. True revolutionaries must call for the unconditional free movement of labor, the end to oppression of immigrant workers, and the total destruction of imperialism.” (Source:

Central Texas: The Socialist Rifle Association recently interviewed a member of the Mid-Missouri John Brown Gun Club, an Alt-Left group that advocates for an armed revolutionary uprising against the state. The activist stated in the interview that he “tried to be a Democrat but they have been dead set at the national level to roll things back to the 1990’s and remove more access to the right to keep and bear arms as part of a seemingly concerted effort to concentrate power in the State.” According to the interviewed activist, part of the reason why Alt-Left gun groups advocate for the usage of firearms is because “We have extremely serious class and race problems in the US, and the way the laws are enforced can make a law that seems like a good idea into a real horror for people of color and people with less money.” (Source:

PIR2: What indicators describe the Alt-Right movement’s strength, capabilities, sentiment, initiatives, and infighting?

Charlottesville, Virginia: Jason Kessler is still attempting to hold a second Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville, however, the city has denied his permit. Kessler has sued the city of Charlottesville in response to the permit’s denial, but remains doubtful that the rally will be held there legally. If the rally cannot be held in Charlottesville, Kessler is planning to hold the rally in Washington DC. The permit for the DC rally has been approved, so the rally will most likely be held there. A large Alt-Left presence is expected to protest the rally as they did in 2017. (Source:

Culture War Roll-Up

Proud Boys: During Patriot Prayer’s free speech rally that took place in Portland, Oregon last weekend, a Proud Boy named Rufio Panman knocked out an Antifa protestor, which has landed the protestor in the hospital. In a video, the masked protestor can be seen attempting to hit Panman with a baton. After blocking a few blows from the baton, Panman punched the protestor, knocking him unconscious. The protestor immediately crumpled over and hit his head on the ground. A female protestor attempted to kick away the baton that fell out of the protestor’s hand, but Panman picked up the baton to prevent any further assaults by other protestors. Towards the end of the video the Antifa protestor who Panman knocked out can be seen being dragged away while unconscious by five or six of his comrades. Panman was arrested by Portland Police, but was released after police viewed the video and saw that Panman was acting in self-defense. According to various activists involved in the Portland antifascist movement on social media, the protestor who Panman knocked out is still being treated in the hospital with a skull fracture and a minor brain hemorrhage. (Source: (Source:

Jordan Peterson: Dr. Jordan Peterson’s book titled “12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos” was ranked number one on Amazon’s 20 most read books of the week list during the final week of June. Dr. Peterson has spent the majority of the summer on a lecture tour of the U.S. and Canada for his new book. Alt-Left activists have attempted to shut down several of Dr. Peterson’s events in cities across the U.S. including Portland and New York. (Source:
