Antifascist groups plan a victory party and other similar events on 15 JAN 2019 to celebrate the removal of the statue of “Silent Sam” from the University of North Carolina. Antifascists identify the statue as racist and a symbol of white supremacy symbol, and its removal as a victory “in the struggle against white supremacy.” The removal of the statue and its pedestal stump is seen as a final and follow-up victory after the statue’s head was removed by protesters in 2018.
