Anti-Fascist Researcher and Apologist Speaks at UC Davis

A popular anti-fascist researcher, apologist, and self-described activist recent spoke at the University of California – Davis. Additionally, he gave an interview to a university newspaper in which he described his book and encouraged Americans to read, digest, and then get active in left wing resistance and activism movements. This report is for subscribers of Low Intensity Conflict.

Mark Bray, a history lecturer and Antifa supporter, was interviewed by The California Aggie. In the interview, Bray detailed why he thinks it’s important that people know the history of anti-fascists movements.

Bray says that his bestselling book, “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist’s Handbook” is a, “menu of resistance” and encourages people to, “eat what they want.” In the article, Bray explains why fascism is a problem today, where it came from, and the threat that it poses. When asked about the alt-right, Bray said that, “The alt-right is not right in the sense of morally correct. How it tries to brand itself is pushing back against what it claims of a stilted, PC, Marxist kind of world. The alt-right is neither alternative nor right.”

During the interview Bray spoke on fascism and anti-fascism during WWII. “The rank and file of the socialist party was very alarmed by the growth of Nazism, whereas leadership was reluctant to encourage anything outside of the realm of civil discourse… the left in Germany was more interested in fighting amongst itself rather than opposing the Nazis.” Bray believes that since WWII racial anxieties have been shifting and following the Nazi ideology, and that the left is more united now than it was in Europe during WWII.
