ParticipantIf China has taught and given the cartels (1) the precursors to make Nitazene (almost certainly the case), and they are weaponizing (2) it, then the deadly Fentanyl epidemic will be nothing compared to Nitazene. Narcan is less effective when trying to combat Nitazene. “It took them seven rounds of Narcan to try to revive him, but he never came to”(2).
“Nitazenes” is a generic term for a class of benzimidazole-opioids. “Nitazene, a synthetic opioid, is up to 43 times more deadly than fentanyl and resistant to Narcan. Chemical suppliers – mainly located in China – introduce new nitazenes when the ones currently used become riskier to produce due to regulatory actions and drug scheduling, or users look for novel opioids that are not yet illegal. For example, DEA’s National Forensic Laboratory Information System (NFLIS) identified four new nitazenes in drug exhibits submitted during 2023″(1).
Nitazenes have begun slipping into the US at an alarming rate. Lucci Reyes-McCallister, 22, died on January 26 near Houston, Texas, after taking a pill labeled as Xanax that was actually laced with N-Pyrrolidino Protonitazene, an emerging form of nitazene. (2)
Generally, the Sinaloa Cartel is the primary source for illicit drugs being trafficked to the US and 46 other countries (1). “Despite controls levied by both the Mexican and Chinese governments, the flow of precursor chemicals into Mexico continues unabated. China-based suppliers are still the main source for the precursor chemicals used by the cartels in Mexico to produce illicit fentanyl and methamphetamine, but India is also emerging as a major source country for these chemicals”(1).
President Trump should highlight the deaths of Americans caused by drugs like Fentanyl and Nitazene much more often to garner support from Americans for direct military action in Mexico against the cartels. If war is ever needed, it is for situations like this that have directly killed hundreds of thousands (3) of Americans. Waiting for Mexico’s Sheinbaum to approve the US for direct action inside Mexico against cartels is futile. This is one case that Americans can and should support war.
