Sharing this intel with the larger audience. I am in the process of building our church’s “safety team” and our local police department reached out to our lead pastor this week to inform him of a situation that occurred November 2nd in our community. Before Sunday service at one of the largest churches (1000+ members) in the community, three Middle Eastern looking males, ages under 30, pulled into the parking lot in a rented Ryder truck. When they entered the church, one male was videoing the interior, one was speaking on the phone in Arabic, and one was speaking for the group. The church security team intercepted the group after they made entry through the church’s front doors. The security asked if they could help the group and informed them videoing was not permitted inside as it is private property. The group’s speaker then asked the security team, “can we freely worship Allah in this building?” The group was informed the church is a Christian church (Baptist) not an Islamic mosque. At this point they were asked to leave the property and local PD was notified.
The group then continued a few miles into a neighboring town and did the same thing at a church there. Following that the group was spotted in the parking lot of a third church in the first town, but did not enter as a police unit pulled in. The group departed the parking lot and left the town headed towards Huntsville.
PD stated they pulled CCTV footage and have shared the video and stills with the FBI and DHS.
Our communities are in Marshall County about 45 minutes southeast of Huntsville.
I would not think our small community would be on the radar for this, but after discussing it with my local intel group the churches in Huntsville have had an increased police presence the past 3-4 weeks. Makes me wonder if they are looking for an area with softer targets.
Just wanted to pass this intel along to remind the members this can occur in small communities situated outside of midsized cites.
