BLUF: The Senate is proposing selling public lands to provide ‘affordable housing.’

Looking at the map and the proposed land sales results in just the opposite type of result. Much of the land they are proposing to sale is far beyond the reach of a commute to urban area. With no services in locations, and no way to earn an income in the proposed areas. This results in the question “Why and to whom are they proposing to sale this land to?” Additionally States requirements for building prohibits the ability to actually build on much of the proposed lands.

In my own area of Wa state, they are refusing septic permits. They are closing down business’ in my area because septic tank systems in good working order, are being red tagged and required fixes prohibitively expensive. More than one business’ have closed down, They had just purchased the property. All Septic Systems have to be approved before a sale. This was a commercial property. The new owners (husband and wife team) were given a red tag, and told they had to ‘upgrade’ their system. It was so expensive, they had to close their restaurant instead. This was within the first year they purchased the property, so the system had just been approved. Similar situations have happened all over the Penn. I know of at least 5 situations within a few miles of me, that have had similar issues. In two instances the business didn’t even get opened, and the new owners are now putting them up for sale again because they cannot use the property for the ‘business which they purchased it for. The same business which was/had operated there for many years’ ( and remember, all septic systems have to be approved before the property sale and title transfer can be completed).

On the Map, proposed land for sale in my state for ‘affordable housing’ is 1.5 hour drive away from any resemblance of ‘urban’ areas. There are no jobs here, except in the medical field. Everything else has pretty much closed down except a few stores and recreational used (camping sites). I am actually dumbfounded as to why this is proposed as a “affordable housing” sale. There will be no affordable housing built here, because there’s no one that could live here unless they were wealthy, could work remotely, or retired, and even then, most people don’t want to deal with the 130+ inches of rain we get every year.

Please look at the map and the proposed land sale in your area, I’d appreciate your thoughts.
