Global SITREP for Monday, 05 August 2024

Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Monday, 05 August 2024.

  1. MIDDLE EAST WAR INDICATORS: The U.K. evacuated the family members of staff at its Embassy in Lebanon. Numerous countries urged their citizens to avoid traveling to Lebanon. Other indicators include:
  • The Spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, said that regional peace can only be achieved by punishing Israel.
  • The Israeli Security Council is considering a preemptive strike against Iran if it receives intelligence that Iran is about to launch an attack.
  • The U.S. sailed the USS Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group into the Persian Gulf over the weekend. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group underway to relieve the Roosevelt. Austin confirmed in a phone call to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant that these moves were in response to Iran’s threats.

  • Global Rollup
    • Civil unrest erupted in 13 British cities over the weekend, following backlash against the murders of three native British girls by the son of an African migrant family. Eight additional people were injured. Pro-British rioters targeted immigrant restaurants and a hotel believed to house asylum seekers. The British Prime Minister, who supports mass immigration, threatened right wing groups, saying, “I guarantee you will regret taking part in this disorder,” which is likely to inflame tensions. (Analyst Comment: Late last year, pro-Irish groups rioted in Dublin following the migrant stabbing of an Irish woman and three children. This is part of a years-long trend building up anger and resentment towards migrants and the government. These native British groups have probably reached a turning point, and we could see organized political violence as a result. – M.S.)
    • North Korean media reports that the government moved 250 ballistic missile launchers to the border with South Korea yesterday. Each launcher can hold four missiles, adding an additional 1,000 potential missiles to the border.
    • German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius announced that a draft defense cooperation agreement with the Philippines is being reviewed and should be finalized by year’s end. Last week, Germany joined the U.S.-led United Nations Command in South Korea to help police the border.
    • The Philippines Army opened a contract to buy 115,000 sets of body armor and ballistic helmets. The contract allows for yearly batches of 23,000. (Exact numbers are unavailable, but this would equip most, if not all, of the Philippines Army. – J.V.)

THAT’S A WRAP: This does it for today’s edition. Thank you for reading. If you know folks who would also like to receive this email, would you please forward it to them? We appreciate you spreading the word. – M.S.
