SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

GUAM CHOSEN FOR SITE OF PACIFIC MISSILE DEFENSE COMMAND CENTER: The U.S. INDO-PACIFIC Command and the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) have chosen Guam as the site of a new missile defense command and control center. The new center will manage a wide array of ground, shipborne and space based sensors as well as control the employment of Terminal High Altitude Air Defense systems, Patriot air defense missiles, and shipboard AEGIS systems. The objective of the new command and control facility is to manage a single operational missile defense picture for the Info-Pacific region. – M.M.

HUNGARY DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared a new state of emergency in a social media video on Tuesday. He said the war in Ukraine is negatively impacting security, energy supplies, and financial markets in Hungary and that the world is on “the verge of an economic crisis.” Orban’s government broke with NATO in not sending weapons and aid to Ukraine. – D.M.

ACTIVE SHOOTINGS RISING UNDER BIDEN: The FBI’s latest report on “active shooter incidents” shows a rise in 2021 during the Biden administration. More than 60 incidents occurred in 2021, up from 40 in 2020. The trend continues into 2022 with yesterday’s shooting in Texas. – D.M.
