SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
JAPAN-US JOINT TAIWAN OPERATION: The United States and Japan militaries have developed a plan for a combined-joint military operation if Taiwan enters an emergency-state with China. The plan would establish a temporary base for the US Marine Corps on the southern Ryukyu Islands also known as Nansei. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida promised to take action if China attacks Taiwan, saying that the US and Japan can not stand by and observe. (Analyst Comment: The rough draft for this joint operation plan includes Japanese armed forces providing logistical support to US forces stationed on the island chain, which stretches from Kyushu to Taiwan. – T.W.)
CHINA “PLAYING” WESTERN GOVERNMENTS: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Chinese government of “playing” Western nations and encouraged western governments to form a united front to counter China. Trudeau said the Chinese Communist Party is leveraging its wealth to turn nations against each other and place political realities behind economic obligations. “We’ve been competing and China has been very cleverly playing us off each other in an open market competitive way. We need to do a better job of working together and standing strong so that China can’t, you know, play the angles and divide us one against the other,” the Canadian leader said.
CEO’s FEAR JOB LOSS: A survey of CEOs found 72% fear losing their position due to industry disruption, a 20% increase in one year. Nearly all the executives said their business models should be adapting to the changing global landscape, but more than half said their organizations aren’t adapting quickly enough.
SOLDIERS TO USE COMMERCIAL SATELLITES: The Pentagon wants to integrate commercial imagery satellites into the military’s orbital network. Significant improvements in low-latency network technology and the increase in commercial imagery satellites provide soldiers access to near real-time imagery for operations. The Space Development Agency is designing optical, inter-satellite links for all commercial imagery providers. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is fielding its own orbital mesh network, Project Blackjack.
