U.S. INTEL TAKES CREDIT FOR DEATHS OF RUSSIAN GENERALS: U.S. intelligence-sharing with Ukraine resulted in the deaths of several Russian general officers, according to U.S. officials. The once-classified program is now being publicly acknowledged by U.S. and Ukrainian officials. Russian officials continue calling the war a proxy fight with the West.
FBI CONDUCTS WARRANTLESS SEARCHES OF CITIZEN’S ELECTRONIC DATA: According to ODNI’s Annual Statistical Transparency Report for 2021, the FBI ran 3,394,053 searches on the electronic data of U.S. citizens under section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
DOUBTS CIRCLE FILIPINO ELECTIONS: The Philippines’ Commission on Elections reportedly failed to answer basic questions about data security and the “defects” of Smartmatic voting machines ahead of Monday’s elections. The national media is reporting that Smartmatic employees were able to hack the voting machines, which is causing doubts about election security.
MALI BREAKS TIES WITH FRANCE AS RUSSIA, WAGNER MOVE IN: The military junta ruling the African nation of Mali announced this week it has ceased its defense accords with France. Mali has accused France of “flagrant violations” of its sovereignty, including violations of its airspace. As reported in the 02 MAY 22 Early Warning brief, Russia’s Wagner group has been active in Mali. Mail’s military’s leadership insists the Kremlin-backed mercenaries are instructors helping to restore order.
