Global SITREP for Friday, 06 September 2024

Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Friday, 06 September 2024.

  • Global Rollup
    • Shigeru Ishiba, a leading candidate for Japanese Prime Minister, called for an East Asian collective security framework similar to NATO on the grounds that the U.S. is unreliable. “The United States not coming to the defense of Ukraine because it is not a NATO member is truly frightening,” he said. “If we replace Russia with China and Ukraine with Taiwan, this is an extremely important issue for Japan to examine.”
    • The Dutch government announced additional export restrictions on advanced lithography technology. Any exports outside the European Union will need government authorization. Lithography technology is critical for advanced semiconductor production. (China is likely to increase cyberattacks against American and Dutch companies that have this technology. – J.V.)
    • South Korea’s Defense Ministry announced the military is deploying 20 integrated anti-drone systems across the country to counter North Korean drones.
    • Ukrainian President Zelensky told his Western allies to authorize long range weapons for strikes in Russia and ignore Russia’s “red lines” while touring Europe to gain additional weapons shipments.

THAT’S A WRAP: This does it for today’s edition. Thank you for reading. If you know folks who would also like to receive this email, would you please forward it to them? We appreciate you spreading the word. – M.S.
