Global SITREP for Thursday, 27 June 2024

Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Thursday, 27 June 2024.

  • Global Rollup
    • Taiwan issued a Do Not Travel warning to its citizens for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau due to the separatist death sentence law enacted last week. (Normally, there is a robust Cross-Strait trade and China continues to push for more Taiwanese to visit and do business in China. – J.V.)
    • The China Coast Guard (CCG) is reportedly driving off Filipino fishermen near the northern town of Masinloc, about 150 miles from Scarborough Shoal. The Philippine Coast Guard received reports that the CCG was as close as 30 miles from Philippine shores. (China is likely emboldened by the non-response from the Philippines and U.S. over the 17 June incident and is steadily enforcing its South China Sea territorial claims. – J.V.)
    • Former Bolivian Army General Juan Jose Zuniga staged a brief coup attempt yesterday. After Zuniga’s arrest, he told the media that Bolivian President Luis Arce ordered him to conduct the coup to boost Arce’s popularity.

THAT’S A WRAP: This does it for today’s edition. Thank you for reading. If you know folks who would also like to receive this email, would you please forward it to them? We appreciate you spreading the word. – M.S.
