Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Tuesday, 24 September 2024.
- Global Rollup
- The Lebanese Prime Minister canceled an internal council meeting on Lebanon’s situation to make an emergency flight to the United Nations for “further contacts” according to the Lebanese Foreign Ministry.
- Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder announced the military is “sending a small number of additional U.S. military personnel” to the Middle East in response to the Israel-Hezbollah war.
- The USNS Big Horn reportedly ran aground off of Oman and is being towed to Dubai. The USNS Big Horn is assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group as their refueling and resupply ship. (The ships in the Red Sea, Lincoln Strike Group, and conducting anti-piracy ops near Africa are likely to reduce their operational tempo to prolong the time at sea while the Navy finds and deploys a new oiler, leaving supply routes open to attack from the Houthis and pirates. – J.V.)
- A Pentagon official announced in a closed-door meeting that the U.S. will host the first Indio-Pacific Industrial Resilience Partner Conference in Hawaii with 12 Asian and European allies in about two weeks, according to the Taiwanese government. (The DOD has not published a similar release. Based on the name, they are likely building a China-free supply chain and committing the partners to the defense of Taiwan by deepening economic dependency. – J.V.)
THAT’S A WRAP: This does it for today’s edition. Thank you for reading. If you know folks who would also like to receive this email, would you please forward it to them? We appreciate you spreading the word. – M.S.
