Global SITREP for Wednesday, 11 September 2024

Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Wednesday, 11 September 2024.

  • Global Rollup
    • At the ongoing BRICS summit of national security advisors, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council head Ali Akbar Ahmadian proposed a “BRICS Security Commission” to establish a “new security structure in the international arena to help the security of the future of the world.” (While this may have legs for smaller BRICS members, China is likely to give pushback on this initiative since its option for a new security structure lies in the Global Security Initiative. – J.V.)
    • South Korea’s Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun declared Wednesday at the Seoul Defense Dialogue that “The fundamental solution to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats… lies in establishing a free and unified Korean Peninsula.”
    • The Philippines is trying to gain diplomatic and external military support against China. At a sideline summit of the United Nations General Assembly, the Philippines wants to establish bloc diplomacy to counter China. The U.S. Marine Corps Commandant promised his Philippine counterpart additional maritime domain awareness support. The Philippines and India agreed to increase Indian presence through training opportunities.

THAT’S A WRAP: This does it for today’s edition. Thank you for reading. If you know folks who would also like to receive this email, would you please forward it to them? We appreciate you spreading the word. – M.S.
