SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

AMERICAN VIEW OF CHINA DETERIORATES: According to the latest Pew Research Center data, negative views of China are on the rise. Two-thirds of respondents say that China’s strategic relationship with Russia is a “very serious problem” and that China overall is a “major threat”. Meanwhile, unfavorable views of China are up from 47% in 2018 to 82% now. Among political parties, just 12% of Democrats say that China is an enemy, while 42% of Republicans say so. 

PELOSI IN UKRAINE, RECEIVES AWARD: A Congressional delegation, lead by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), toured Kyiv with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy over the weekend. She is the highest-ranking U.S. official to meet with the embattled leader in Ukraine. Speaker Pelosi also received the Order of Princess Olga for her “significant personal contribution” to U.S.-Ukrainian relations.

CHINESE DRONE MAKER SUSPENDS RUSSIA & UKRAINE OPERATIONS: Chinese drone maker DJI announced it will suspend operations in Ukraine and Russia following reports of weaponized drones on the battlefield. The company says it must reassess its “compliance requirements” and “deplores any harm” caused by its products. 

SOUTH KOREA CONSIDERING NATO SUMMIT: South Korean officials are considering attending a NATO summit in June, to be held in Madrid, Spain. “In order to shape a stable environment in terms of relations with China and North Korea, [Seoul] needs to have discussions with European countries as well,” South Korea’s nominated foreign minister said during a confirmation hearing.
