SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

BRITISH OPENLY CALL FOR “GLOBAL NATO”: British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss called for a “Global NATO,” citing security situations in Europe and in Asia. “We also reject the false choice between Euro-Atlantic security and Indo-Pacific security. In the modern world we need both, a global NATO,” Truss said.  She continued, “NATO must have a global outlook, ready to tackle global threats. We need to pre-empt threats in the Indo-Pacific, working with our allies like Japan and Australia to ensure the Pacific is protected.” – M.S.

BELARUS MOVES TOWARD DEATH PENALITY FOR SABOTAGE: Following anti-war sabotage of rail lines, Belarus announced that attempted sabotage and acts of terrorism would be punishble by death. “Destructive forces are continuing terrorist and extremist activity by trying to rock the situation in Belarus, provoking domestic instability and conflicts,” Vladimir Andreychenko said. “Actions are being taken to disable railway equipment and tracks, objects of strategic importance. There can be no justification for the actions of terrorists.” – M.S.

US WEIGHING ADDING RUSSIA AS TERROR SPONSOR: During a Congressional hearing yesterday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the administration is considering adding Russia to the list of state sponsors of terror. “There’s no doubt in my mind, senator, that the Russians are terrorizing the Ukrainian people. The question is this—and again, this is something that the lawyers are looking at—to make sure that we actually meet the statutory requirements of that designation.” – M.S.
