CONGRESS TO DESIGNATE RUSSIA STATE-SPONSOR OF TERROR: U.S. House Reps Joe Wilson (R-SC) and Ted Lieu (D-CA) introduced a bill to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terror for its actions in Ukraine and around the world. “Russia’s involvement in international terrorism is more expansive and has been well documented for years… Their reign of terror must stop, and this designation is one way to formally and collectively recognize what they have done against humanity,” Rep Wilson said. If the resolution passes, Russia will join Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria as a state-sponsor of terror. – D.M.
PELOSI TO RENEW GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION: Following the shooting in Buffalo, New York, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) vowed to pursue new gun control legislation. “[T]he House will continue to consider additional measures to strengthen efforts to combat domestic terrorism. We must never stop fighting to end the bloodshed — because enough is enough.” – D.M.
INDIAN MILITARY REASSIGNS SIX ARMY DIVISIONS TO BORDER WITH CHINA: Indian military officials reassigned six army divisions from various locations in India to positions along its border with China. The moves come after Army Chief General Manoj Rande’s recent threat assessment of disputed territory at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where China recently deployed additional military forces. The realignment shifts military units away from India’s border with rival Pakistan and its restive Jammu and Kashmir regions. Rande ordered the move to adapt to what he views as India’s greatest long-term threat, China. – M.M.
