Global SITREP for Monday, 18 March 2024

Good morning, and welcome to the Global Situation Report for Monday, 18 March 2024.

  1. NETANYAHU: A PALESTINIAN STATE IS A THREAT TO ISRAEL: In a recent interview, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “creating a Palestinian state at this point would be the greatest reward for terrorism in history and create a platform for attacking Israel.”
  • Referencing a 99-9 vote against the creation of a Palestinian state in the Knessettheir legislature, Netanyahu claimed to be “leading the policies that most Israelis think is essential for our survival and a future.”

Why It Matters: Elimination of the Palestinian state remains a red line for Egyptian military intervention, but no additional troop movement has been observed. – J.V.

  1. POTENTIAL FOR A NEW SPACE RACE, RUSSIA AND CHINA’S MOON BASE: Russia is sending a law through its Duma, their legislature, to build a joint moon base with China and develop joint efforts for “cosmic space reclamation.”
  • The law comes from a 2022 memorandum of understanding between Russia and China that they would construct a lunar station.
  • The U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC) just opened up a $986 million contract for multiple additional space launch providers. The providers have to be able to launch payloads over 400 pounds into space within 24 months of winning the contract.

Why It Matters: The U.S. has unofficially entered a space race with Russia and China, with potentially catastrophic military implications. – J.V.
