BLUE GOLD DISCOVERED IN ALASKA: Mining company Discovery Alaska Ltd reported that Lithium deposits were discovered at a southern Alaskan mining prospect already rich with easily accessible tin, silver, and zinc. The report is based on recent analysis of backlogged core samples from surveys in 2006. The company plans to proceed with more in-depth laboratory tests to further identify priority mining areas. Analysts see this discovery as a potential enabler for the U.S. to break its dependence on Chinese rare earth minerals. – R.P.
